Outreach and Missions

At Desperation Church we believe the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus commands us to carry the Gospel message to the entire world--to every nation, ethnicity, culture, and language.  The growth and strength of the Church depend on its wholehearted sacrifice and support for world evangelization. First and foremost our mission field is where the Lord has individually planted us, which is the Liberty/Kansas City area, our work places, schools, neighborhoods, and homes. But to never look outside of our ‘world’ and see the great need in other places, would be a travesty.

Our heart has always been, as we grow as a local church body, to grow our missions and outreach giving as well. We support, as a church, various ministries and people that we believe are radicals in God’s army. These are the ones who are counting the cost and laying their lives down for the sake of Christ. I respect, admire, honor and love each and every one of them. Please take the time to visit each page we have dedicated to their ministries, but more importantly, pray for these beautiful people.

Jesus told us to pray for workers to go out into the harvest fields, but He also told us to ‘go’ ourselves.  At Desperation Church we plan various mission trips throughout the year.  In the past we’ve attended different areas in Philippines, Mexico, Haiti, and Grenada.  For 2008 we have a group going to La Croc, Mexico in April and in August we'll take our 3rd trip to Haiti.  We have connections with an orphanage there.  These trips are for anyone that wants to live the great adventure of following God’s radical mandate.

NOTE: We do require anyone attending a DC sponsored mission trip to have completed all three base classes prior to the trip.  Also, you must be 18 years or older unless it is a 'youth' mission trip sponsored by our Youth Ministry having chaperones.

Through the denomination that we are affiliated with, Open Bible Churches, there are many other wonderful missionaries that we support by giving 5% of our total church income.  This money is added with other U.S. churches to support many awesome missionaries located in: Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Brazil, Cayman Islands, Central Asia, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ghana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guinea, Guyana, Hungary, India, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Liberia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Romania, St. Vincent, Sierra Leone, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Ukraine, Uruguay, and Venezuela (to name a few).

Another 5% of our church’s total income is put aside for ‘home missions’. We use these monies for scholarships to help folks from our church go on these trips. From time to time, we also take up love offerings and give 100% of those to visiting missionaries. These special offerings, added with our 10% tithe towards missions, constitute our church’s total giving to missions at this time.
